The Key to Sustaining Recovery - A Recovery Month Short
Happy Recovery Month! I am Dave Aumiller- in long term recovery from SUD. My recovery is 3 pronged. On a daily basis I do something to build a healthy mind, body, and spirit. My daily routine or “medicine” is non negotiable. If I want to get better from the flu I have to take my medicine.
The same goes for my Substance use disorder and mental health. It took me a long time and a large support system to figure out what my daily recovery needed to look like in order to be enjoyable, energizing, repeatable, and effective. Now that I have, it seems like there is no limit to the hope and quality in my life.
Things just keep getting better!
This September I invite anyone struggling with SUD and other co occurring mental health disorders to utilize mentors, sponsors, peers, therapists, and mental health professionals to their fullest capacity in order to discover what your “medicine” is so that you can celebrate your life and enjoy your recovery for the gift that it is.
Defining what my medicine is and developing the support and resilience to participate with my own wellness on a daily basis with the tools at my disposal has become the greatest privilege of my life. From my weakness has come strength. Head up, eyes forward, chest out, our best days are in front of us.
